Bo Kaap

Bo Kaap – a neighbourhood defined by cobblestones and brightly coloured homes – was formerly known as the Malay Quarters and had an incredibly diverse local population.

However, the gentrification occurring in and around the major cities means that the rich culture and history of this stunning area is slowly fading away.

Below is a gallery from my time in Bo Kaap – and I hope you guys get a feel for the warmth and hopeful energy that moves through the historic, cobbled alleyways.

  1. What an incredibly beautiful place and your photos do indeed give me the feeling of a nice, warm and laid-back feeling of the little “town by the sea”. It’s really very sad to see such gorgeous places disappear into the sprawl of change.

    Awesome photos Ryan

  2. Such beautiful pictures and such vibrant colors! You definitely did an amazing job at capturing the story behind this place that I’ve never heard of. Ill tell you what though. After viewing these magical photos, I wanna book a flight right now. Keep up the amazing work!

South Africa – and Africa in general – is stunning!
There are tons of negative connotations related to the continent but I had such a wonderful experience!
I hate to self promote – but if you get the chance – check out my photos from Namibia, then you’ll definitely be on the next flight over!
