Marcel takes us deep inside the African continent, exploring the West African coast on an Expedition Cruise and upstream along the Gambia River, discovering the land of enchantment, rituals and mysteries.
In April I had the great opportunity to spend a week on the Smiling Coast. I loved to get in touch with the people of the Saloun River Delta in Senegal as well as the people of my favourite town Kuntaur, at the North Bank in The Gambia.
I spent hours hours with the kids and their families sitting at the river banks and answering their questions. Some invited me to their houses and was glad to spend time with them, photographing their daily life.
Slowly sailing along the Gambia River allowed me to take a deep dive into the culture while also embracing the opportunity to explore a number of natural reserves. It truly was an exciting voyage of discovery, unravelling the wonders of West Africa.
